Understanding Why Consultative Examinations Are Scheduled For Social Security Disability Benefits
Once an application for disability is processed at your local Social Security field office, all non-medical criteria will be accurately evaluated and then sent to Disability Determination Services (DDS) for a medical adjudicated decision. DDS the state government agency contracted to the Social Security Administration (SSA) to fully develop claims and to make medical decisions on SSDI and SSI monetary benefits. If the medical evidence requested by DDS from the claimant’s physical or mental treating sources are insufficient; SSA will purchase a consultative examination in order to fully develop the case and fair due process for the claimant.
